Pros

  • Beautiful screen
  • Modular design
  • Strong performance
  • Wide angle camera
  • Cheaper than other devices with the same specs

Cons

  • Average battery life
  • Design not for everybody

Bottom Line

The LG G5 tries to deliver a unique Android experience with its dual cameras and future-proof modular design, and it is sure to catch the eye of those looking for something a little bit different.

The LG G5 is a 2016 5.3-inch high-end smartphone praised for its innovative modular design, dual cameras, fast performance and premium design. Unlike its plastic/leather predecessor, it features an all-metal body, and with a reduced screen-size to give it a premium look. It is also exceptionally comfortable to handle with one hand. LG included two back cameras, with users loving the wide angle shots from the secondary lens. However, the G5 still does not feel as premium as other flagships like the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s, and while the idle mode notifications prove useful, the phone’s always-on screen reduces the phone to less-than-full day stamina.

This is the phone to get if you want a removable battery, but it fails to live up to its world-changing Swiss Army Knife potential.

The LG G5's modular party pieces are yet to be fully realized, but away from that you've got a supremely solid flagship smartphone - if only the battery was a bit better.

Combine this with the disappointing build and you have a phone that is great in many areas, but misses the mark overall.

It's a powerful smartphone with an inspired approach to photography, but it feels like LG made too many compromises to make the G5 work with its swappable modules.
