Samsung has taken a big hit with their recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Latest estimates even put the cost to Samsung at around $5 billion. That’s no small chunk of change. But never mind the cost to the company, they have more to worry about with the damage to their brand. There is little doubt that the company has lost at least some of their consumer confidence.
While I haven’t seen any hard figures, I know several Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners who never had any problem with their devices opting to go with Apple instead of another Samsung device after the recall was released and then expanded. The news that the smartphone was canceled was a hard hit for the company as well.
So should you stick with Samsung after the problems with the Galaxy Note 7? I for one think so. While I never owned the Note 7, I am a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy Tab S2. So, as you can probably guess, I am a fan of their devices, even after the news of the Note 7 disaster broke.
About the Recall
In case you have been living under a rock, Samsung initially recalled all their Galaxy Note 7 devices because they had a tendency to overheat and burst into flames. Definitely not a good problem to have. After the replacement phones went out, everyone thought things would get back to normal. But then the replacements started doing the exact same thing.
This prompted the company to cancel the phone completely and issue a recall of every single Galaxy Note 7 they sold. A huge financial hit for the company and a big hit to their reputation, there is no doubt there.
In their latest blog post about the recall, the company stated, “Samsung has announced an expanded voluntary recall on all original and replacement Galaxy Note7 devices sold or exchanged in the United States in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and in partnership with carriers and retailers. Since the affected devices can overheat and pose a safety risk, we are asking consumers with a Galaxy Note7 to power it down and contact the carrier or retail outlet where they purchased their device.”

Reasons Why You Should Stick With Samsung
Now I’m not here today to talk much more about the recall. We’ve done that already. Now that you know about the latest about it, let’s look a little more to the future. There is no doubt that Samsung will have to work to re-earn consumer confidence, but I’m going to show you why you should still consider Samsung as your smartphone manufacturer moving forward.
1. Samsung Is Working For Your Trust
Samsung was a little slow to react to the initial safety issues with the Note 7. This is most likely due to them not believing it. And who would? After all, they did spend time testing the device, but perhaps they should have spent a little more time doing it.
Still, they continue to work to earn your trust and are treating owners of the Note 7 well. They are not only issuing refunds and providing exchanges for their devices, they are also giving credits to your carrier as well. This should cover any lost time and help you out on those expensive monthly plans you have with your smartphone, while at the same time getting you a new phone in the process.
2. History of Quality
When you look at Samsung products overall, they have a long history of creating and selling high quality products to consumers. Just look at their televisions, computers, and their smartphones and tablets. Their current flagship product, the S7 and the S7 Edge, are high quality smartphones that have received huge praise from reviewers across the world. Sure, the Note 7 is a definite black eye for the company, but that doesn’t mean everything produce is bad or dangerous. In fact, all their products are great. Even the Note 7 received praise for its design before the problems began.
3. Best Alternative to Apple
There is no denying the quality of Apple products, and even Apple has had their fair share of controversy with their smartphones. Anyone remember bendgate? They denied these problems for a while as well and then ended up replacing the affected phones. Now, I will give it to you that their smartphones weren’t exploding, but still it comes down to confidence.
Now there are tons of Android devices out there, but if you are looking for Apple quality in your Android device, then you Samsung is still the best alternative to Apple out there. Sure, you can get decent devices elsewhere, but Samsung gives you the Apple quality you want without having to pay that pesky Apple tax in the process.
4. Beautiful Design
If there is one thing I love about Samsung products, it is there design. Samsung products just look amazing. So many Android devices look, well, plain and boring. That’s no fun. While you want your device to work well, let’s just all admit that we like them to look pretty sweet, too. Well, at least I do. Samsung uses high quality components and designs their products to be gorgeous as well as functional.
Really only Apple is the other smartphone manufacturer that does the same thing. Really they invented it. Still, Samsung does a great job themselves creating beautiful products that consumers love.
5. Flawless Android Implementation
If there is one thing we all like, it is a flawless working smartphone that is easy to use. The default install of Android can be a little, well, complicated for some to use. Overall, it is a great mobile operating system that is rock sold and very powerful, but it can be a little daunting to some. Samsung’s implementation of Android is flawless, and makes it every bit as easy to use as an iPhone.
Now I know some prefer the default installation of Android, but the beauty of Samsung devices is that you get a recent version of Android with a UI that is easy to use. If you want to go back to the stock interface, you can, as you have the freedom to use your smartphone the way you want it.
If you are looking for high quality mobile devices that don’t come from the local fruit company, then Samsung is definitely your best choice. Despite the problems with the Note 7, the company has a history of creating high quality products for its customers. It’s Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets are top notch despite the blemish of the Note 7. The company is working to repair its reputation and is trying their best to do right by their customers, meaning you should still consider them for your next smartphone despite recent problems.
While I’m sure Samsung will have a much longer road ahead of them of convincing customers who phones actually did explode, most Note 7’s ran without a problem. This means that your device may have been fine, but you are getting a brand new device anyway. Add on top of that their overall track record and I believe that it is worth giving them another look for your next device. If you have a Note 7 or are just in the market for a new smartphone, then I would recommend sticking with Samsung and picking up an S7 or an S7 Edge. I believe you won’t be sorry and you will end up with a beautiful and reliable device for your smartphone needs.
